Part 6: Shocking true nail salon stories that’ll make you blush, cringe & laugh!
Unless you’ve worked in a salon or spa providing beauty services to the paying public, you may think that some of these scenarios cannot possibly be true. However, I encourage you to ask any licensed, currently working beauty professional friend or acquaintance this question that I asked of my nail tech Facebook following:
“What’s the most shocking thing a client ever said to you?”
WOW, did the responses come rolling in & after 100 I stopped counting the number of nail techs who posted what craziness they’d encountered on the job. Below are the next 10 responses in this series, which makes 60 nail techs stories thus far.
Some are fairly mild by todays standards, but a few years ago they would’ve been considered shocking or completely outrageous since back then the majority of clients didn’t openly fly their freak flags (they kept that 💩 under wraps in public).

“My client sat down, I started pushing back her cuticles & she said, ‘I just smoked a joint & I have residue under my nails. Can you clean it out?’” — K.B
J.J. — “First week working in a salon. The client was older & picky. She was leaning into the pedicure the whole time while popping her gum in my face & correcting & telling me to cut all the dry skin off. Her husband came in & said in Spanish “She’s not done yet? Is she new or what?” I looked back at him & said yes. And went to the back to cry. I had to come back & finish though. She was a regular & nobody ever took her after that, only the Manager.”
“That her mom would hate my tattoo. (Freddy Krueger)” — K.B. (different tech than the 1st K.B up above)
T.B. — “I had another client that used to come in to have her head shaved bald. While I was shaving her head she blurted out that her husband loves to watch her get it shaved & that it turns him on. Said that in a few minutes he will be walking out to the car to bust a nut & when she is done getting her head shaved they have sex in our back parking lot. Well she wasn’t lying…our cameras caught all the action!” 😱
“A girl told me she broke her nail because she couldn’t wait to get her pants off & get her dildo in so her man could join in! Sorry if too graphic, but needless to say I’ve been wearing gloves & required hand washing for years now. And I told her IF she lost any more nails due to her ‘impatience’ that I would no longer be her nail professional.” — J.P.
M.S. — “I once told a client I was pregnant, very excitedly might I add, & she told me it was ‘a waste of good talent’. So I said peace out lady when she wanted to re-book, but in a smart ass way.”
“A new client came in to get a pedi, proceeded to cry & confess she was having an affair ….. said she couldn’t believe she was telling me all this & I said ‘well, apparently you needed to talk to someone and that someone was me. It won’t leave my room’. I happened to have a very private pedicure room. Never saw her again!” — R.G.
Me responding to R.G. — “I had a similar experience where a client told me that she just had an abortion & was still bleeding but confessed she was already lusting after another man. She asked rhetorically, “what’s wrong with me?” I just put my head down & kept filing because what could I say? I’m not a psychoanalyst, I’m a nail tech trying to earn a living. Never saw her again & was super relieved about that, too.”
“I broke it putting in a tampon! (her fingernail)” — A.B.
P.K. — “Client told me that her & her husband were having trouble in bed… so the doctor prescribed shots…. then proceeded to tell me that she had to inject his penis & he called it foreplay!”
